United Airlines – Polaris Business Class – A Premium Travel Experience.

United Business Class

Since its introduction in June 2016, Unitedโ€™s Polaris Business Class set out to reimagine premium international travel.
Now, nearly a decade later, Polaris has become a consistent option for global travelers, offering lieโ€‘flat seats, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, lounge access, and โ€” more recently โ€” a groundbreaking suite-style upgrade known as Polaris Studio. In this post, weโ€™ll dive deep into every aspect of the experience: seat design, amenities, dining, lounges, the upcoming upgrade, and whether it still meets the high bar of modern business travel.

Unitedโ€™s Polaris Business Class is designed to redefine long-haul comfort for todayโ€™s global traveler. Featuring spacious lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, every passenger enjoys direct aisle access and plush bedding by Saks Fifth Avenue. Thoughtful details like multi-course dining, an indulgent ice-cream sundae cart, and attentive service elevate the onboard experience. On the ground, Polaris Lounges offer restaurant-style meals, craft cocktails, and quiet spaces to unwind before departure. With upcoming Polaris Studio suites adding privacy doors and luxury touches, United continues to push its premium product closer to first-class territoryโ€”making Polaris a smart choice for travelers who value comfort, rest, and a touch of indulgence at 35,000 feet.

1. Seats & Cabin Layout

  • Layout & privacy
On wide-body jets (B777, B787, B767), Polaris adopts a 1โ€“2โ€“1 configuration: all seats with aisle access. The window seats provide excellent privacy.
The staggered layout provides both aisle and window seat options; window seats โ€” especially odd-numbered ones like 1L or 9Lโ€”offer enhanced privacy

  • Fully lie-flat beds
Each seat converts into a 6โ€ฏft 6โ€ฏin (โ‰ˆ2โ€ฏm) flatbed, allowing you to stretch out comfortably

  • Consistent experience
Polaris is available across Unitedโ€™s fleet of 767s, 777s, and 787s โ€” so you typically know what youโ€™re getting

  • New โ€œPolaris Studioโ€ Suites
Coming in 2026 on Boeingโ€ฏ787โ€‘9s with sliding doors, larger screens, companion ottomans, and caviar serviceโ€”25% more space than standard Polaris

a. Lieโ€‘Flat Beds in a 1โ€‘2โ€‘1 Layout

On wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 777, 787, and 767, Polaris adopts a 1โ€‘2โ€‘1 configuration โ€” ensuring every passenger has direct aisle access.

  • Each seat converts into a fully lieโ€‘flat bed measuring about 6โ€ฏft 6โ€ฏin (2โ€ฏm)

The Boeing 767 stands out with a 1โ€‘1โ€‘1 center layoutโ€”ideal for solo travelers who crave extra space

b. Storage, Tech, and Comfort

The Polaris seat includes clever storage cubbies, adjustable armrests, multiple charging points (USB-C, USB-A, AC power, wireless charging), and lumbar-adjustable backrests. ย Consoles, mirrors, and roomy footwells round out the thoughtful design.

2. Bedding & Amenities

a. Saks Fifth Avenue Collaboration

One of Polarisโ€™s strongest draws is its bedding collaboration with Saks Fifth Avenue. Reviews consistently praise the plush duvet, memoryโ€‘foam pillow, mattress pad, and optional slippers and pajamas.

b. Amenity Kit

United partners with Therabody to provide a stylish beltโ€‘bag kit packed with skincare, socks, toothbrush, earplugs, and moreย . Reviews note high-quality contents including facial serum and hydrating mist .

3. Inโ€‘Flight Dining & Service

a. Multiโ€‘Course Meals

Pre-departure drinks, real tableware, linens, and multi-course meals enhance the onboard dining ambianceย . A signature highlight: the iconic iceโ€‘cream sundae cart, offering passengers customized sundaes mid-flightโ€”an adored tradition.

b. Culinary Quality & Feedback

While desserts and portions receive praise, mains often draw mixed reactionsโ€”some find them bland .
After initial criticism, catering has improved: lighter, more inventive appetizers, flavor-infused entrees, and solid breakfasts are now more consistently arrived. Yet, overall, Polaris dining is viewed as good โ€” but not bestโ€‘inโ€‘classโ€”among high-end carriers.

c. Personalized & Attentive Service

Flight crews frequently receive praise for friendliness and attentiveness. Especially impactful momentsโ€”like the sundae cartโ€”elevate the in-flight experience.

4. Lounges & Ground Experience

a. Polaris Lounges

Available at major domestic hubsโ€”Chicago Oโ€™Hare, San Francisco, New York Newark, Houston, LA, Washington Dulles โ€” Polaris Lounges offer alโ€‘aโ€‘carte dining, quiet rooms, shower suites, and daybeds .

b. Arrivals Lounges & Priority Perks

London Heathrow’s Arrivals Lounge (preโ€‘12โ€ฏPM arrivals) is exclusive to Polaris passengersย . Other perks include dedicated checkโ€‘in counters, priority boarding/security, and premium baggage handlingย .

5. Entertainment & Connectivity

Polaris seats include HD touchscreen monitors (15โ€ณ on older builds, upgrading to 19โ€ณ on new cabins) with extensive movie and TV libraries . Youโ€™ll also find Bluetooth integration, multiplayer device charging, and power outlets.
Wiโ€‘Fi is available but costs applyโ€”Starlink installation is planned to bring faster, complimentary connectivity in the coming years.

6. Polaris Studio: The Next Evolution

a. Suites with Sliding Doors

In May 2025, United launched its Polaris Studio โ€”a suite-class upgrade for Boeing 787โ€‘9 Dreamliners arriving by late 2025, with commercial operation starting in 2026

  • Eight suites per plane in the first two rows, each offering sliding privacy doors, lie-flat beds, ottomans for companions, and 27โ€ณ 4K OLED screensโ€”the largest on any U.S. carrier.

b. Luxury Upgrades

The Suites are about 25% larger than standard Polaris seats, come with caviar amuseโ€‘bouche featuring Ossetra and Laurentโ€‘Perrier Rosรฉ Champagne, noiseโ€‘cancelling Meridian headphones, pajamas, slippers, wireless charging, and quartzite tables.

c. Wider Fleet Refresh

Standard Polaris seats also receive upgrades: sliding privacy doors, 19โ€ณ 4K touchscreens, fourโ€‘point device charging, digital seat controls, and Bluetooth-enabled systems.

d. Rollout and Cost

First aircraft are expected to join by year-end 2025, with commercial service from 2026 on routes such as SFOโ€“Singapore and SFOโ€“London. United plans for ~30 of these enhanced Dreamliners by 2027.
Round-trip fares for Polaris Studio are estimated between $6,600โ€“$10,000, though often offset by MileagePlus points.

7. Strengths & Weaknesses

๐ŸŸข Strengths ๐Ÿ”ด Limitations
Lieโ€‘flat seats with direct aisle access โ€“ consistently comfortableย  ย  Dining is improving, but still inconsistent
Best-in-class Saks beddingโ€”ideal for sleep- Wiโ€‘Fi still paid; slower rollout of free high-speed service
Polaris Lounges deliver top-tier ground experience – Seats without privacy doors on older planes
Sundรฅae cart delight and friendly crew- Not quite rivaling premium carriers for service consistency
Polaris Studio suites offer near-first-class luxury- Higher costโ€”suites can reach $10K RT

Review Video:ย

Unitedโ€™s Polaris Business Class offers a reliable, comfortable, and satisfying premium travel experience โ€” especially for long-haul journeys. While the food may not rival top-tier international carriers and service can fluctuate, the superior bedding, lie-flat seats with aisle access, Polaris lounge access, and consistent product across aircraft make it a compelling choice. If luxury suites and privacy matter most, the upcoming Polaris Studio may be worth the extra spend.
