Boracay Island is just one out of more than 7000 Islands in the Philippines and belongs to the group of the Visaya Islands. Boracay is a tropical island surrounded by stunning white sand beaches and clear blue waters located about an hour’s flight from Cebu or Manila just off the larger Philippines island of Panay. Boracay is about 6 km long and only 1 km wide but stands for some of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the Philippine archipelago. The famous White Beach on Boracay’s West Coast, is probably the most beautiful beach in the Philippines. Boracay is undoubtedly one of the most established tourist destinations of the Philippines, with the infamous ‘White Beach’ still ranked as the no.1 beach in Asia. As a holiday destination, the island of Boracay is among the Philippines’ most popular. Picture trendy bars, sophisticated restaurants and luxury hotels set on an idyllic island and you begin to scratch the surface of what this elite destination has to offer.
Getting to Boracay:
Whether you go by plane or by boat, the port of entry for Boracay Island is the small town of Caticlan on the mainland, just 10 minutes by boat fom Boracay away. The most convenient way getting to Boracay is by airplane. There are domestic flights by smaller planes available directly to the Boracay Airport in Caticlan. Another way to use the plane to Boracay, is a flight to the international airport of Kalibo, which involves an about 1.5 hour trip by bus or van from Kalibo to Caticlan. The Airport in Kalibo can also serve bigger planes (New also from Hong Kong, Seol Korea, Taiwan, Manila). The short boat trip to Boracay’s jetty port at Cagban costs about 20 Pesos. Tourists have to pay a terminal fee of 50 Pesos and an environmental fee of 75 pesos. Tricycles are available at Cagban (Boracay pier) to bring passengers to their hotels. Tricycle fare is from P50 per pax up to P150 per trip depending where your resort is.
Flights to Boracay:
There are many airlines wich connect Boracay with the world. The closest airport to Boracay is Caticlan. About one hour drive is Kalibo. Most of the airlines fly from Manila, Clark or Cebu to Boracay Airport. You can book directly on the web sites of the philippine domestic airlines: AirPhil Express, Cebu Pacific Air, Seair and Zest Air.
Flights from Manila to Boracay Airport depart about every 30 minutes during daytime, from Cebu to Boracay, there are only three or four flights a day. New are one or two daly flights from Angeles/Clark to Boracay/Caticlan. Please note, that in case of bad weather, the small planes can not land at Boracay airport and will be diverted to Kalibo. Alternatively, you can also book a flight to Kalibo Airport, which can handle bigger planes and there are also flights in the evening, when the Boracay Airport is already closed. However, you have to cope with the 1.5 hours bus trip to Caticlan.

Where to stay:
White Beach is where most of the hotels are situated and is the focal point of the island, stretching for 7km and separated into 3 stations (station 1, 2 and 3). Stations 1 and 2 are where most of the action is in terms of restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and station 3 is traditionally the more peaceful, serene part of the beach.
