Airplane Comfort Tips

image 1 1

Getting comfortable on an airplane can be a challenge, especially during long flights.

The most important Airplane Comfort Tip that will make you feel very comfortable while flying is if you know that you have struck the best deal and managed to save a lot of money. Whether you are flying on a business trip or a pleasure trip, you can make it less expensive with little extra effort.

Here are some airplane comfort tips that will make your journey comfortable through some lesser-known methods of using air transport. Interestingly, the famous airfare price wars and the travel agents are not at the top of the list of our best airplane comfort tips.

When Should You Call Airlines?
The first airplane comfort tip suggests that you may get air tickets at a lower price if you call the airlines after 12 midnight and before 1:00 A.M. This is the best time because computers are updated at this time. Alternatively, you may make inquiries at other nearby airports. To your surprise, the difference in fare at the two airports can be several hundred dollars. You can also save some money if you book your ticket well in advance. On the other hand, booking at the last minute may also give you some extra benefit.

How to Counter Airplane Dryness
Now that you are mentally comfortable, because you feel that you have done your best to pay minimum for your airline ticket, here are some other airplane comfort tips to keep you physically comfortable while flying:
1.) You should take very light meals and get a good night’s sleep before you start traveling.
2.) To counter the dryness caused by the atmosphere in the cabin, it will be better if you avoid drinking tea, coffee and alcohol. However, consume as much water and fresh fruit juices as you can. If you wear contact lenses, remove them if it is possible. Use moisturizer for the exposed skin and lip balm for the dry lips. If you have history of any kind of respiratory disease, it is advisable to consult your doctor before flying in the airplane.

Do Not Sit Idle for a Long Time
My next airplane comfort tip is that you should not remain sitting idle for the whole duration of the flight. It may cause obstructions in blood circulation resulting in muscle cramps, tiredness and worst of all, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Whenever you get a chance, try moving in the aisle. If you find it difficult, try to stretch your arms, neck, feet and legs.

Your seat: Your seat location could be one of the most important factors in how wellโ€”or how poorlyโ€”you sleep on a plane. Everyone has their own preference on where to sit, but that doesnโ€™t mean all seats are equal. Taller flyers would be wise to grab an aisle seat, where it’s easier to spread out, while nappers might want a window seat, so they’re not disturbed by neighbors who need to use the restroom. One of the most unanimous tips our pros offered was using SeatGuru http://www.seatguru.comย  to get a map and description of the seats on your flight, so you won’t get stuck at the back of the plane with no room to recline, or next to the heavy-traffic bathroom area.

Carry-on luggage: If you have two full-size carry-ons, one might end up under your feet, limiting your legroom and making it harder to sleep.

Dressing: There are three important things to remember when flying: comfort, comfort and comfort. If you want to achieve the comfort of Business Class, weโ€™re talking elasticated waistbands, stretchy materials, sexy flight socks and fluffy jumpers.ย Don’t choose very tight underwear that will be pushed into your skin. After a long journey you will feel much more fresh if wearing a breathing underwear. Wear comfortable clothing! Stay away from high heels or clunky boots when flying.

Checkin: Cross one stress off your list by checking in early. By checking in online before you head to the airport, you’ll saveย some time waiting in line and will also be able to pick your seat ahead of time.

No Coffee: Especially on a daytime flight, where even the view out the window can be a distraction, youโ€™ll find it much harder to sleep if you have caffeine coursing through your veins. Avoid the temptation to have a cup of coffee or a soda before boarding, and stick to water or juice when the drink cart comes around.

Pillows: There never seem to be enough blankets and pillows to go around. Board early and stake your claim. If there isnโ€™t a set in your seat, immediately ask the flight attendant for one. Weโ€™re just not meant to sleep sitting upright, but when a 10-hour flight awaits you, you need to be prepared. Those free cushions donโ€™t cut it and they wonโ€™t give you the support your neck needs. So pack a travel pillow.

Free Your Feet: This is a controversial subject. Some people slip their shoes off as soon as they get on a plane; others wouldnโ€™t dream of it. Further, thereโ€™s the issue of keeping your circulation flowing; going barefoot permits your feet to swell.

Cabin Bag: Having the empty space under the seat in front of you is crucial for your comfort. Having your legs cramped up for the duration of any flight is not preferable. So, if you can, place everything in the overhead compartment that you wonโ€™t be using during the flight. If you have two carry-on items then I recommend keeping your bag under your knees and freeing the space under the row in front of you for your feet.

Drink more: Fluid intake during the flight is very important, because the body tends to dehydrate.

Stretch & exercises: Don’t forget to stretch and do some exercises. Every occasionally stretching and moving around helps your blood circulation in the body. Circle your hand and foot joints, do not forget to stretch and flex the neck.

Cleaness: Do you know the last time your seat area has been wiped down with bleach? Yeah, neither do I. The first thing I do when I reach my seat is to take out the Clorox wipes and wipe down my tray table, the arm rest, my seat belt and, if my seat is leather, the seat itself.

Smelling: Sometimes, especially if youโ€™re seated near a bathroom, things can get ugly.ย  Or maybe your neighbour didn’t take a shower for 4 days, ughhhh.ย  Aromatherapy can go a long way! I often bring a tiny scented spray — preferably lavender, which has calming properties.

Earplugs:ย  Tune out crying babies and chatty passengers with a good pair of earplugs.ย  With your newfound silence, naptime can finally become a reality.

However, you should always look behind you to make sure the coast is clear before pushing the button to put your seat back.

These simple tricks will help a lot to make your long flight more comfortable!
